About NM MOM

Mission of Mercy is a program of the New Mexico Dental Association Foundation. It has historically been a large scale, two day free dental clinic. In 2018 we are coordinating smaller, rural dental clinics as well. It is a place and time where dental professionals and community volunteers can come together to help provide dental care for the underserved population in our state. It is a first come, first served clinic where all are welcome. This clinic is for low- or no-income New Mexicans who cannot pay for dental care.

In our six previous events, in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, San Juan County, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe, we served a large number of people with the great satisfaction of coming together to help others. NM MOM has had six events where over 8200 new smiles have been created and $6 million in donated dental treatment has been provided by 8300 volunteers. The first event was in Albuquerque in October 2010, the second event was in Las Cruces in March 2012, the third event was in Farmington in September 2013, the fourth event was in Rio Rancho in October 2014, the fifth event was in Santa Fe in April 2016, and the six event was in Albuquerque in September 2017.

Founded in 2005, as the charitable affiliate of the New Mexico Dental Association, the New Mexico Dental Association Foundation is a place where the big heart of dentistry is on display every day. In addition to administrating the annual New Mexico Mission of Mercy event that serves anyone who chooses to receive treatment at a 2 day free dental clinic, the Foundation coordinates the Donated Dental Services program that provides year around dental treatment in dentists’ offices for hundreds of disabled or elderly New Mexicans who cannot afford dental care.

New Mexico was the 15th state in the country to participate in Mission of Mercy. The New Mexico Dental Association Foundation hopes to continue hosting MOM’s throughout the state to help as many people as possible. Mission of Mercy events began in Virginia in 2000 through the America’s Dental Care Foundation (ADCF). ADCF is still integral in helping states put on MOMs across the country. They provide equipment, framework and expertise at all state events.

Mission of Mercy in New Mexico is made possible by grants, municipal sponsorship, individual donations and generous corporate gifts. Since NM MOM patients are not charged for the dental services they receive, ongoing financial support is a great need. Please consider making a donation to help support this great program.
